Why do you love Estill Voice Training? Estill Voice Training is so much fun, so many skills based on scientific facts and voice empowerment for myself and for my students. I always wanted to sing in different styles and also help promote versatility and vocal health in others.
Biggest professional challenge: Singing and performing the dinner shows for/in Monti’s Variété for Circus Monti in Switzerland. Again this year! These Christmas shows in November/December focus on circus artists – as the solo singer in the live-band accompanying the artists, one has to be able to sing various styles in different voice ranges. It’s long working hours, incredible magic on- and offstage and we only get the material very late just before and during the short rehearsal period. It’s a mesmerizing time. EVT has really helped me tackle this opportunity!
Favorite vocalist: Whitney Houston. I’ve always admired the strength in her voice, her versatility. How touching her voice sounded. The intention that was in that voice.
Favorite book: I love books so much in general. Works by Khaled Hosseini (“A Thousand Splendid Suns” and “The Kite Runner”) and Jhumpa Lahiri (“The Interpreter of Maladies”). A more recent one would have to be “Divergent” by Veronica Roth or “August Blue” by Deborah Levy. I’m interested in stories from different cultural backgrounds such as Afghan culture (Hosseini) and Indian cultures (Lahiri). I also like discussing female protagonists.
Person you would most like to have dinner with: Freddie Mercury. Oh, the commitment of this performer. His unapologetic demeanor as an artist.
Hobby: Nature, Swimming, Yoga, Dance sports.
Favorite quote: “You can only be yourself, the rest is taken.” (Barbra Streisand)
People would be surprised to know: Before I studied Musical Theatre and Estill Voice Training, I earned a master’s degree in English linguistics and literature, history and criminology from the University of Zurich in Switzerland.
