Behind-the-mic at the EWVS 2025:

ClareMcLeod (EMT) is a Harvard Ed.M and Berklee College of Music alumna, taught in Melbourne for several years before returning to the US where she is now Associate Professor in the Voice Department at Berklee.

Clare also heads a production company putting together seminars for songwriters with leading educators around the world, such as Pat Pattison, Beth Nielson Chapman, Stephen Webber, Jason Blume, Mark Simos and more. Clare is a member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing and PAVA. In addition to teaching at Berklee, she teaches regularly in New York, Los Angeles, Colorado and Austin and continues to study developments in the voice research field.

At the symposium, she will present on “Student Centered Learning: Promises, Problems and Possibilities” and what does it mean to educate effectively?

Her session will look at the advantages and challenges of student centered learning and explore options for finding pedagogies that more wholly address the dynamic and complex nature of teaching and learning.

With a specific focus on singing and ways in which the Estill model can be taught, she will explore how both teacher and student can engage in learning that supports and enhances artistry. She will also consider practical ideas for designing instruction that facilitates artistic development.
