Estill Voice International is thrilled to shine a spotlight on one of its newest Estill Mentor & Course Instructors (EMCI), Aaron Matthew Lim Wei Kian, who brings a wealth of experience and a global perspective from his home base in Singapore. Aaron’s passion for the Estill Voice Model is clearly evident in his work, as he continues to expand the reach of voice science across cultures and languages.

A Foundation Built on Certainty

For Aaron, Estill Voice Training® (EVT) has been a transformative force, not only for his own vocal practice but, more importantly, for his students.

“Estill gave me so much more awareness about my own voice, but more importantly, it gave me so many tools that I can use for my voice students,” Aaron shares.

He emphasizes the benefit of being able to “coach with more certainty,” eliminating the “trial and error” and “second guessing” that can plague traditional voice instruction. The model’s continuous evolution is also a key factor in his admiration, as he notes, “the Estill world is also always evolving and improving, and that is a wonderful thing as well”.

Embracing the Global Challenge

Based in Singapore, Aaron’s biggest professional challenge is a rewarding one: teaching Estill in different countries. This involves navigating students with varied languages, “attractor states,” and voice habits for both speaking and singing. He describes this international endeavor as an “eye opening experience” and a “fun and exciting journey”.

Inspirations and Insights

Aaron’s personal inspirations reflect his appreciation for both vocal artistry and intellectual genius:

  • Favorite Vocalist: Whitney Houston. Aaron admires her voice for being “natural sounding and yet expressive and powerful”.
  • Dream Dinner Guest: The ghost of Jo Estill. Aaron’s curiosity about the Estill Voice Model’s creation is profound, stating, “Her brain is simply amazing and I would like to know why and how she managed to create the Estill Voice Model!”.
  • Favorite Quote: “The expert at anything was once a beginner.” ~ Helen Hayes.

Aaron also revealed a surprising new hobby: yoga training. He’s currently working toward achieving a handstand and other poses. He sees a clear parallel between the two disciplines, noting that “Yoga is so similar to voice training, and we all have to exercise our voice just like we exercise our body”. This pursuit, alongside his love for “Exercising and Eating” in food-rich Singapore, keeps him balanced.
