Notes from your Trainer

There are few classical teachers who don't have to turn their hand to teaching repertoire they have not trained in and are unfamiliar with, both in terms of sound and technique. It can be daunting to be presented with music where any common ground is hard to find. This is especially true for musical theatre. Contemporary musical theatre encompasses an enormous range of musical and vocal style from pop to rock to the more ‘traditional’ writing of Rogers and Hammerstein as well as recent musicals such as Dear Evan Hansen, Everybody’s Talking About Jamie and Six, each with their own distinctive sound based more on 'chest' voice or Speech Quality.

Where does a teacher from a classical background start?

This practical and informative day will include:

·       Can classical singing and musical theatre co-exist?

·       Is classical technique transferable to musical theatre?

·       Where to start

·       Is Belting actually safe? How can to train it?

·       Key stylistic differences and how to identify them

·       Training your own voice

·       Short master class

·       Q&As

Suitable for: People new to the Estill Model; those familiar with the Model, looking for clarification and consolidation; singers and teachers; students and professionals.
