Notes from your Trainer

This 3-hour intensive workshop introduces singers to the practical application of Estill Voice Training® principles for developing healthy, efficient, and stylistically appropriate belting. The course focuses on understanding the physiological foundations of belting and applying Estill Voice Figures to achieve powerful, expressive sounds while maintaining vocal freedom and sustainability.

Participants will explore key Estill Voice Figures—including True Vocal Folds, False Vocal Folds, Larynx, Cricoid Tilt, Velum, and more—and examine how specific vocal configurations contribute to the acoustic qualities associated with contemporary belt singing.

Through guided exercises, listening analysis, and practical repertoire application, singers will learn how to create intensity, projection, brightness, and emotional impact without relying on excessive muscular effort or vocal strain.

Emphasis will be placed on distinguishing between different belt qualities, understanding how vocal tract shaping influences sound, and developing the coordination required to transition confidently between speech-like and singing-based vocal qualities. Participants will gain practical tools to build consistency, expand vocal range, and make informed technical choices that support both artistic goals and long-term vocal health.

This course is suitable for singers, vocal coaches, and educators seeking a science-based, functional approach to belting that combines Estill Voice Training principles with contemporary vocal performance practices.

  • Identify the physiological and acoustic characteristics of different belt qualities and their corresponding Estill configurations.
  • Apply Estill-based techniques to improve power, projection, clarity, and vocal endurance in belt singing.
