Calibration
Before recording, it’s important to calibrate your microphone to ensure accurate sound measurement and display. Hold your microphone approximately six inches away from your lips, then say and sustain an “AH” sound as you would in normal speech for about four to five seconds at your highest comfortable volume. Click Start to begin the calibration process and Finish when you’re done. Your calibration settings will be saved automatically—you only need to repeat this process if you change microphones or experience inconsistencies in display levels.
Plot Settings
The Plot Settings window allows you to customize how frequency information and real-time plotting are displayed in Estill Voiceprint.
- Frequency Marker #1 and #2:
Use these sliders to adjust and position horizontal frequency markers on your display. These markers help you track specific frequency bands or resonance areas (measured in Hertz, Hz) as you analyze your voice. You can type values directly into the boxes or move the sliders to change marker positions. - Realtime Plotting:
Toggle Realtime Plot On/Off to control whether the spectrogram updates live as you record. Keeping real-time plotting On provides immediate visual feedback, while turning it Off can improve performance on older or slower computers—displaying the analysis only after recording stops.
At the bottom of the window, use Markers: ON to show or hide your frequency markers, Reset to restore default settings, and OK to confirm your changes.
Voiceprint Colors
Under preferences, select theme and then select Change Voiceprint Colors. This window allows you to customize how your voice data is displayed for easier viewing and analysis.
- Spectrum Color Scale:
This section controls the color gradient used in the spectrogram to represent sound intensity (measured in decibels, dB). Brighter or warmer colors (yellows and reds) indicate stronger acoustic energy, while cooler colors (blues and purples) represent lower intensity. - Other Colors:
Here, you can adjust the colors of key display elements such as the Background, Waveform, Loudness, and Pitch traces to suit your visual preference or improve contrast. - Color Controls:
Fine-tune color settings by adjusting the Red, Green, and Blue sliders, or choose one of three presets:
- Default – the standard color scheme.
- BW – a black-and-white scale for simplified contrast.
- Custom – allows manual control over all color channels.
Once you’ve made your adjustments, click OK to apply your changes or Cancel to revert to your previous settings.
