JOB DESCRIPTION:

Berklee College of Music invites nominations and applications for a full-time faculty position in the Voice Department. The ideal candidate will demonstrate significant professional accomplishment, knowledge, and skill in vocal performance and pedagogy across a wide variety of contemporary styles, along with demonstrated expertise in the application of science-based vocal pedagogy to vocal training in these styles. They will be committed to excellence in teaching with a deep commitment to vocal health and wellness. They should enjoy working in a campus climate that promotes cultural diversity and multicultural understanding. The position will help support the minor in Teaching Contemporary Singing as well as the ongoing anti-racism work in the voice department as part of their service to the college. Ranking and compensation is commensurate with professional experience, competencies, and qualifications. The start date for the position is September 1, 2024.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Teach applied voice in both individual private lessons and group vocal ensembles/labs with interest/expertise in contemporary music styles
  • Actively support classes in vocal pedagogy for the minor
  • Guide students in the development of efficient vocal technique – serving as a mentor and role model
  • Develop customized student strategies for maintaining vocal health and wellness, including physical and vocal warm-ups, and other targeted preventative measures
  • Academic advising for students
  • May be asked to contribute to curriculum development, course content, and review
  • Involvement in auditions determining eligibility, juries, and final exams
  • Contribute to Voice Department-sponsored special events
  • Additional duties as assigned by the Department Chair(s)

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A minimum of 5-years effective teaching experience and curriculum development at the college level preferred
  • A record of significant professional performing experience and/or recordings as a vocalist
  • Active experience of performing and continuing professional development
  • Expertise and/or comprehensive knowledge of a wide variety of contemporary music repertoire
  • Piano accompanying skills sufficient to support private vocal instruction are required
  • Demonstrated success in teaching vocal pedagogy associated with contemporary musical styles
  • Strong command of technology and PA systems to support teaching and learning
  • Aptitude for embracing cultural diversity in individuals, teaching perspectives, and curriculum
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to excel within a team oriented departmental culture
  • Master of Music (or equivalent professional experience) preferred

Past Job Postings

UNIVERSITY LEVEL: Individual with minimum of a masters degree and EMT certification, though EFPs will be considered. Ability to play piano is required. Duties will be at minimum joining the private studio faculty with the potential for more as fit, interest, and opportunity arises. Compensation is salary based.

MVPAA: Individual with an EFP and can play piano to work with energetic and eager Academy students between the ages of 5 and 16. Compensation is hourly based.

Die Akademie für Darstellende Kunst Bayern ist eine Fachakademie für Schauspiel, Regie und Theaterpädagogik. Der Austausch zwischen Ausbildung und Theaterpraxis ist Konzept und bietet den Studierenden beste Bedingungen, sich auf die Anforderungen des Berufs vorzubereiten. Die Mitwirkung der Studierenden bei Produktionen des angeschlossenen Akademietheaters wird dabei ebenso umgesetzt wie die Erarbeitung schuleigener Projekte.

WORAUF KOMMT ES UNS AN?

Wir suchen eine engagierte Persönlichkeit mit abgeschlossenem Gesangspädagogikstudium, vorzugsweise mit Erfahrungen im Popularmusik- und Muscialbereich. Ein Diplom- oder Masterabschluss ist unbedingt erforderlich. Praktische Erfahrungen in der gesangspädagogischen Arbeit und exzellente Kenntnisse in der Stimmbildung populärer Musik, Musical und Chanson sowie gute Repertoirekenntnis in diesen Genres werden vorausgesetzt, ebenso die Fähigkeit am Klavier zu begleiten. Des Weiteren sind uns Teamfähigkeit, Zuverlässigkeit und die Bereitschaft, mitunter zu theaterüblichen Zeiten zu arbeiten (ggf. auch abends, sonn- und feiertags), wichtig. Für die Vollzeitstelle, die Unterrichtspflichtzeit beträgt 24 Std. à 45 min bei 40 Zeitstunden, ist ein Umzug nach Regensburg oder in die nähere Umgebung erforderlich. Außerhalb des Unterrichts fallen folgenden Tätigkeiten an:

  • Vor- und Nachbereitung des Unterrichts
  • Teilnahme an Lehrerkonferenzen, internen Workshops o.ä.
  • Begleitung von Theaterprojekten, der Abendspielleitung im Theater o.ä. Die Lehrproben werden in der zweiten Märzhälfte stattfinden.
