Name: Karen Perta

Current home (city, country): Columbus, OH, USA

Where did you grow up? Utica, NY (upstate)

Biggest professional challenge: Designing and conducting voice research that has little to no precedent in the literature.

Favorite Voice book: Voice and the Alexander Technique, Estill workbooks.

Last book read: The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao by Junot Diaz

Person you would most like to have dinner with: Living or dead? Dead – Mozart, Living – Lin Manual Miranda.

Favorite performer: Lady Gaga, Shoshana Bean.

Dream vacation: Three weeks in Seychelles and the Maldives (one day!)

3 Albums (CDs) you would take with you if stranded on a deserted island: My preferences are too broad to choose 3, so really I would take 3 “mix tapes” of pop, rock and Broadway classics; however, for the purposes of this question, I think the only ones I wouldn’t get tired of: Queen’s Greatest Hits – The Platinum Collection, Billy Joel’s Piano Man and for the sheer irony At Folsom Prison by Johnny Cash

Item(s) most likely to be found in your refrigerator: Almond milk, olives, Brita pitcher.

Hobby(ies): Traveling, bird watching, singing/acting/voice acting, movies and the occasional video game.

Favorite quote: “To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment.”

People would be surprised to know… In high school, I had pet ducks that lived in my house.
